Rebecca and I ruled out ever owning more than two dogs.
A pack of chinchillas, however, is still on the table.
The neighbors that moved into the house next door to us don’t like dogs. They called the city of Hazelwood, which has a two dog limit—admittedly, we’ve been flaunting that bad boy for a year now without realizing it; we thought the rule was more of a subdivision guideline. None of our other neighbors have ever spoken to us regarding the animals, and we do our best to bring them inside promptly if they start barking. If they see someone they don’t know, they will bark. Especially if, like my neighbor, you stand right across the fence from them and glare at them.
We have five dogs, and we received a letter today (Wednesday) that says we have until Saturday to be in compliance with the two dog policy. What does this mean in the short term?
- Sandy will have to be put to sleep within the next two days.
- Lucy will have to go stay with Jared’s girlfriend until we figure out what to do, or until we can find a more permanent solution.
- Otis will have to go stay with one of Jared’s acquaintances.
We’ll have Sophie and Holly still, and hopefully we’ll be able to see the other dogs somewhat regularly. I know that, having lived all together for about a year now, they will be tough to separate.
